This book consists of a practical and a theoretical part. The practical part is written by Yvonne Eriksson, PhD, Department of Art History and Visual Studies, Göteborg University. It deals in text and pictures with the design of various topographic maps and various types of thematic maps.

The theoretical part consists of a general view of research written by Prof. Gunnar Jansson, Department of Psychology, Uppsala University. Gunnar Jansson has been active in research on tactile maps since the early 1970-ies.
